Overview
I designed and built an interactive election package for TV2 News’ live coverage of the US midterms, made up of three views: a state map, a Senate chart and a House of Representatives chart.
Challenge
The graphic had to be readable at a glance on TV, yet deep enough to answer “what’s happening in Texas?” instantly. The data changed constantly, and the people updating it were newsroom staff, not designers.
Solution
I built everything in Rive, with design and data kept separate. The map stays clean: states turn red or blue when confirmed, split Senate states get a striped treatment, and key states can be toggled on and off. Tapping a state opens a detail panel. All names, photos and numbers come from an external document that TV2 updates themselves.
Impact & Result
The map ran in TV2 News’ live election broadcast and throughout the following day, giving anchors a reliable tool to guide viewers through the results.
Data-driven and built once, it lets the newsroom update results without touching the design, which is what makes this approach well suited to live broadcast.
